Bernadette Sembrano marked the feast of the Immaculate Conception by remembering a personal heartache as she revealed that she had a miscarriage in 2019.
“Today is a special day and I want you to meet Molly,” the “TV Patrol” newscaster said on Tuesday, Dec. 8, in a video on Facebook as she gestured to a box with a figurine of a child behind her, as per Inquirer Bandera’s report yesterday, Dec. 9.
“Si Molly iyong baby namin ni asawa (Emilio Aquinaldo IV), Mary Olivia,” she said, then got emotional. “Nakakaiyak pala ‘no.”
(Molly is my baby with my husband, Mary Olivia. This is really tear-jerking.)
She said Molly was successfully implanted on Dec. 8, 2018, but was gone nine weeks later, before Sembrano’s birthday.
“When we lost Molly, that’s where I learned to honor Molly’s life by living a full life and saying yes to a lot of things,” the reporter shared.
She said she kept a journal in which she wrote what she wanted to tell Molly if ever she did not see her grow up. Now, she keeps Molly as an inspiration in doing all the things she wants to pursue.
This includes serving in a chapel, songwriting and even appearing this month on variety shows “It’s Showtime” and “ASAP.”
In remembering her daughter, she also recalled her Papa, who died in April 2019. “But I promised papa that if I would sing, I would remember him. So I take them with me.”
“Ang point ko lang (My point) today, we are celebrating ‘bubog (glass shards),’” she said in her reflection.
“Marami tayong bubog, bawat isa sa atin na may bubog na may sugat na malalim na ating dinadala na hindi kailanman mawawala. Pero ang punto rito, paano mo yayakapin ang bubog na mayroon sa puso natin.”
(We each have shards (that cause pain), each of us have shards that have deep wounds that we carry and will never heal. But the point is, how will you embrace the shards that pierce our hearts.)
Sembrano certainly has carried on amid the heartbreak. She unleashed her songwriting talent this year and released her latest song, “Yakapin ang Pasko,” last November. /ra
