Veteran actress Nora Aunor received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Performing Arts in the 19th Gawad Amerika Awards for her contributions to Philippine cinema.
“Sa lahat ng mga tagahanga ko po diyan sa Amerika, mga nagmamahal po sa akin, mga sumusuporta, ang aking walang katapusang pagmamahal para sa inyong lahat diyan, mula sa puso,” the Superstar said in a virtual acceptance speech yesterday, Nov. 23.
(To all my fans over there in America, to those who love me, to my supporters, I send to you my never-ending love for you all, from my heart)
Aunor, considered one of the best actresses in the industry, is widely known for her numerous acclaimed portrayals of iconic characters in Filipino film classics, including “Himala,” “Bona,” “Bulaklak sa City Jail,” “The Flor Contemplacion Story” and “Thy Womb,” among many others.
The Gawad Amerika Awards Foundation was established in 1996 by Filipinos living in the United States. Two years later, it began bestowing awards to fellow Filipinos and Filipino-Americans for their contributions in various fields.
The award-giving body, as per its website, works with various organizations and businesses to “provide help to many struggling Filipino-American families with socio-economic opportunities that enable them to live with dignity and decent lives.” JB
