Jennica Garcia joined a group of rescuers to track down and assist residents of Marikina City and Rizal who were severely affected by the recent Typhoon Ulysses.

During their search, the Alliance Search and Rescue team retrieved the body of a deceased homeless woman in the floodwater. The woman, identified only as Terry, drowned at Tumana, Marikina, as per Garcia’s Instagram post last Thursday, Nov. 12.

However, they were unable to immediately bring her to land because they did not have a stretcher and other necessary equipment at the time. They also had to leave her belongings behind due to a wave that approached them.

“We had to improvise to get her inside our boat,” she noted. “Ang bangka na gamit namin ay hiram lamang at hindi de-motor. Sinagwan namin ito at itinutulak hanggat kaya pag ang tubig ay mas mababa sa aming dibdib.”

(The boat we were using was just borrowed and was not motor-operated. We paddled and pushed it for as long as the water did not reach our chests.)

“[Nawa’y] nasa tabi na po sana kayo ng ating Tagapaglikha (I hope you are by the side of our Creator). Rest in Peace Manang Terry,” she said.

Following their time in Marikina, the group had a short break before heading to Cainta, Rizal. Garcia also thanked an unknown person who stopped by the side of the road to hand them boxes of donuts.

“Please continue to pray for us, the families in Cainta and everybody in the Philippines who are still in dire need of help,” Garcia said while thanking those supporting her and her team.

The actress is currently seeking donations for a rescue boat to conduct medical operations in Cagayan.

Fellow celebrities such as Angel Locsin, Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Dingdong Dantes have also extended help to victims of the typhoon. The three, together with the group Aktor (League of Filipino Actors), delivered relief goods to Marikina residents in need yesterday. NVG
