Actress Giselle “G” Töngi chided television host and comedian Arnell Ignacio after he declared that celebrities nowadays are proving true their stereotype of being “dumb.”

Töngi reminded Ignacio, known to be a staunch supporter of the Duterte administration, that celebrities are only using their voices in exercise of their rights to express opinions on the country’s issues.

“[Arnell] – dahan dahan lang sa pag atake ng mga [kasamahan] sa industrya na ginagamit lang naman ang kanilang boses na karapatan naman nila,” Töngi said on Twitter yesterday, Nov. 4, as she shared an Inquirer Bandera report of Ignacio’s remark.

(Arnell, please think carefully of what you say to colleagues in the industry who are only using their voices, which is their right.)

“Sa kaalaman ko, ang may mahinang ulo ay yung di tumutubong buhok mo, kaya tuloy naka plug-ins ka (emoji: winking face with tongue, peace),” Töngi also quipped. (From what I know, the one with the weak head is he whose hair would not grow and need plug-ins.)

Ignacio got slammed for his claim that it got harder to defend celebrities from their “stupidity,” as seen on his Facebook post on Nov. 2.

“Noon ang artista kadalasan ang tingin e mahina ang ulo… na stereoyped kung baga. Nakaka sama nga ng loob noon… pero ngayon ang hirap na ipagtanggol. Ang daming prueba eh.me yabang pa nga sa katangahan e,” he said.

(Back then, celebrities were often seen as dumb. They were stereotyped, so to speak. It was painful then, but now, it has become hard to defend them. There is so much evidence. Their stupidity even comes with arrogance.)

While Ignacio did not drop names, netizens assumed that he was referring to Angelica Panganiban for her viral tweet at the time, during the onslaught of Typhoon “Rolly.”

“Ano [na ang] plano? Tulog na lang? Kilos kilos naman para sa sinumpaan para sa bayan at mga Pilipino,” Panganiban tweeted on Nov. 1. (What is the plan? Just sleep? How about you go do your sworn duties to the country and Filipinos.)

Panganiban also did not drop names but netizens pointed out that she was possibly referring to President Rodrigo Duterte, who was being called out publicly online for being absent from the government meeting called as a response to the calamity. “#NasaanAngPangulo” topped the Philippines’ trends on Twitter on the same day.
