Leni Robredo lauds Enchong Dee for volunteer work during pandemic
Vice President Leni Robredo has nothing but praises for Enchong Dee as the actor has been providing much-needed help to fellow Filipinos amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Robredo also lauded the actor for being hands-on in his volunteer work, noting that Dee sometimes comes unannounced to the Office of the Vice President (OVP) to give food to other volunteers, as per her online interview with G3 San Diego yesterday, Oct. 12.
“May mga artista na silently, very very silently tumutulong. Example, si Enchong. Si Enchong hindi lang nagso-solicit din ng pamigay, hindi lang ‘yun (There are actors who are very silently helping. For example, Enchong. Enchong does not only solicit donations, not only that) ,” the Vice President said.
“Lalo nung early days bigla na lang mag-aappear sa opisina namin may dalang merienda para sa mga volunteers, siya ang nagdadrive sa sarili niya (Especially during the early days, he would just suddenly come to our office to give our volunteers food, [and] he drove himself to the office),” Robredo added.
Robredo also recalled the time Dee volunteered to have his acquaintance disinfect the VP’s office as a safety measure against COVID-19.
“Three weeks ago siguro, nagsabi si Enchong na magvo-volunteer daw siya. May kilala siya o partner na nagdi-disinfect ng opisina. Kasi alam n’ya na ang daming pumupunta sa opisina (Around three weeks ago, Enchong told us that he was volunteering. He said he had an acquaintance or partner who disinfects offices. Because he knows that lots of people go to our office),” Robredo said.
According to the Vice President, Dee explained that the office should be unoccupied for the disinfection, so they decided to undertake the it after office hours.
“So kami, nag-schedule kami 6 o’clock in the evening, wala na kaming lahat. Ta’s bigla na lang iyong security sa office nagpadala ng video. Si Enchong mismo ‘yung naglilinis (So we scheduled it to be conducted at 6 o’clock in the evening, when we were not in the office anymore. Then suddenly, the office’s security guard sent us a video. Enchong himself was the one cleaning)!” Robredo said.
“Siya mismo ‘yung naglilinis! Alam mo ‘yon, na wala naman makakakita sa kanya pero siya ang gumagawa. Parang for him to do that, more than what is expected (He cleaned the office himself! No one was there to see him do that, but he himself did it. For him to do that is more than what is expected),” she added.
Dee last April donated 500 personal protective equipment and food to the OVP, which in turn has been providing much-needed assistance to frontliners amid the pandemic. He is one of the many celebrities who have been active in providing fellow Filipinos assistance in these dire times.
Aside from volunteering, Dee has been creating and starring in a digital series with on-screen partner Erich Gonzales under their YouTube channel Enrich Originals during the quarantine. /ra
