Sharon Cuneta announces she is ‘retiring soon’
Sharon Cuneta declared that it is “almost time” for her to retire, surprising fans on social media.
“Kids, it’s almost time. Mama’s tired. I love you!” the Megastar wrote on Instagram yesterday, Oct. 10, accompanying her announcement with a photo of her looking exhausted.
“On my way to retirement,” the 54-year-old said in the post.
The actress-singer, who has spent over 40 years in showbiz, updated her Instagram bio with the statement “retiring soon.”
Cuneta has previously expressed her desire to step away from the hustle and bustle of the entertainment industry.
While vacationing in the United States in 2015, she said she hoped “to retire in 4-5 years” in a Facebook post, noting that the U.S. is one of the places she would like to settle down in.
The showbiz icon reiterated her sentiments last year, stating that she is “so very tired” and that she wanted to semi-retire after “41 years of work, work, work.”
Cuneta has been making films since her teenage years in the 1980s, starring opposite heartthrob Gabby Concepcion, with whom she would have her first child, actress KC Concepcion. Aside from making box office hits, she also found success in her music career, as she actually started out as a singer. She staged concerts in the country and abroad, and hosted her own musical shows “The Sharon Cuneta Show” and “Sharon”.
She continues to keep busy even as work has slowed down due to the coronavirus pandemic, keeping Sharonians posted about her life through vlogs on her YouTube channel Sharon Cuneta Network. JB
