SoKor President sends heartfelt message to BTS after ‘Dynamite’ tops Billboard Hot 100

South Korean President Moon Jae-in acknowledged the award-winning K-pop giant BTS’ feat after its single “Dynamite” smashed a new record, making a historic run for a Korean act atop the Billboard’s Hot 100 list.
“BTS has achieved its first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, writing a new chapter in K-pop history as the first Korean band to do so. After having topped the Billboard 200 main album chart four times, they have now reached No. 1 on both charts,” Moon wrote in a statement released on Twitter on Tuesday, Sep. 1.
“It is truly amazing. It is a splendid feat that further raises pride in K-pop,” Moon further stated as he also praised the song “Dynamite” which, he said, “is all the more meaningful as it has been composed to give a message of comfort and hope to people around the world who are struggling with COVID-19.”
“It will bring huge consolation to Koreans suffering from the national crisis caused by COVID-19. I offer my heartfelt congratulations,” added President Moon who has always been so supportive of the boy group’s achievements.

This feat of the BTS adds to its big wins in the music scene, following the continuous success of its newly released digital single “Dynamite” since its release on Aug. 21.
It was past midnight on Tuesday, Sep. 1, when Billboard shared the news on Twitter that BTS has earned their first No. 1 debut on the songs chart with their all-English lyrics track, making them the first all-South Korean act to land on the chart’s highest ranking.

A ‘dream come true’ for BTS
The seven BTS members, too, have always been vocal in interviews and press conferences about their dream of making their songs hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which they finally fulfilled this year.

Eventually, this milestone has brought a threefold celebration to BTS as they recently bagged four trophies at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards held in the United States on Sunday, Aug. 31. They won in the categories of the best group, best pop, best K-pop and best choreography with “ON,” the lead song off the band’s studio album “Map of The Soul: 7.” It was also where the band did its first television performance of its new hit single “Dynamite” filmed in front of a green screen backdrop in South Korea.
The announcement of their Billboard success on social media also came like a memorable surprise gift to the boy group at the dawn of BTS member Jungkook’s 23rd birthday (24th in Korean age).
With all these surprises, the Korean superstars could not help but become emotional as they expressed their gratitude and appreciation to their ARMY fans for their unending support and love, which helped the band earn the Billboard’s top spot.
In their Twitter account, BTS member Jung Hoseok, also known as JHope, shared his birthday greetings for his younger brother Jungkook and at the same time congratulated all the members for topping the Billboard chart. JHope also took the time to reach out to their fans, saying, “[You] know we thank and love [you] more than anyone, right? ARMY needs to be congratulated too!!”

BTS member Park Jimin also replied on JHope’s tweet and said that he was crying as he felt overwhelmingly grateful.
“I just talked to Suga (one of BTS’ members) and I was so grateful to the ARMY,” Park said. He also apologized to the fans because he did not know the exact words to say as he still could not believe what was happening. “I keep on crying,” he said.
Shortly after, Park posted another message on Twitter that one fan @choi_bts2 shared in its English translation: “I am out of mind now, but you guys made this and you guys should receive the congratulations. I hope you feel as good as this No. 1 score. Thank you, and I’m so thankful.”

In its official Twitter account, BTS thanked the ARMY fans, saying, “Thank you #BTSARMY. You made this all possible! You guys light it up like it’s Dynamite.”
