OPM icon Ebe Dancel has taken to social media to find out the real meaning of “uwu,” and his search for the truth is just as amusing as it may seem.
Dancel, 44, first sought the help of netizens through Twitter yesterday noon, Aug. 7, by posting, “Ok can anyone please explain to me what uwu means? Nasa skl= share ko lang pa lang ako (I am only at skl= ‘I just want to share’ for now).”

After getting several interpretations of the famous internet emoticon, the former Sugarfree frontman at one point thought that “uwu” meant “unhappy without you.”
Fellow musician and 3D member Bullet Dumas, meanwhile, tried to enlighten Dancel and explain how “uwu” is actually an emoticon of a cute face, akin to Puss in Boots’ in the “Shrek” franchise.
Haha, diba ang uwu ay (mata) (bibig) (mata)?
Mata nito: 😔
Bibig nito: 😖
Tunog nito: *uwu*
Yung pacute na paiyak just after the Puss in Boots paawa look.

“Langya di ko pa rin alam ibig sabihin ng uwu. Iba iba sagot ng mga tinanong ko eh (Damn it, I still do not know the meaning of uwu. The people I asked have different answers),” Dancel posted a few hours after he started asking about the emoticon.
The artist then decided to have a little fun by wittily inserting “uwu” in the lyrics of several of his songs, from “Nagiisang tiyak Sa isang libong uwu” to “uwu ang hari ng sablay.”

The musician even treated fans to a short video of him singing the intro of Sugarfree hit “Makita Kang Muli”—the “uwu” version, of course.

While it is unclear if Dancel ever found out the real meaning of “uwu,” his effort to seek the internet’s help was surely a delight to fans. /ra
