WATCH: Frankie Pangilinan holds online fundraising concert for Donsol families
Singer-songwriter Frankie Pangilinan held an online concert to raise funds for needy families in Donsol, a third-class municipality in Sorsogon.
Pangilinan streamed her concert via Instagram Live yesterday, July 28, in coordination with the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines to help 278 families in Donsol.
The young artist explained that the funds will be used to feed the families suffering from the pandemic’s economic blow to Donsol’s Whale Shark Ecotourism Program, which provided locals jobs while conserving the environment.
“[The] program has generated jobs for locals, many of whom are now butanding (whale shark) interaction officers or [BIOs], tour guides, boat crew members, captains, homestay owners, resort staff and associated service providers,” Pangilinan said in her livestream.
“And these locals are considered modern-day environmental frontliners who are showing the world how sustainability and conservation can go hand in hand with economic development and livelihood generation,” she added.

Those willing to help can still donate via the SimplyGiving page for Pangilinan’s fundraiser, which aims to collect P20,000 for the cause.
“We can be frontliners from home for our environmental frontliner kababayans (countrymen) in Donsol. Together, let’s support the community of Donsol as they continue to #ChangeTheEnding for our endangered butandings (whale sharks) and their natural habitat!” Pangilinan noted in the page.
Pangilinan, who is an ambassador of WWF Philippines, disclosed that her #Conservatunes livestream is also her first-ever online concert.
Several artists previously joined WWF Philippines’ fundraising concert series, including Jim Paredes, Brisom, Janine Teñoso, Bea Lorenzo, Hazel Faith, Johnoy Danao and Zephanie Dimaranan, among many others, to help numerous communities. /ra
