Actress Dianna Agron penned an emotional tribute to her “Glee” costar Naya Rivera, who died from accidental drowning on July 8.
“Naya and I fell into stride with such ease, she was my first friend and ally on our show,” Agron said on her Instagram page yesterday, July 14. She accompanied her post with a photo of them playfully touching noses while wearing matching costumes.
“In the pilot, our characters came and went with such swiftness,” she added. Agron and Rivera portrayed high school cheerleaders Quinn Fabray and Santana Lopez, respectively.
Agron then spoke about how they were full of enthusiasm as the show premiered.
“We dared to dream. What if this show worked? Wouldn’t that be something?” she recalled.
When the show kicked off, Agron expressed that “Naya’s magnetic talent was going to be unleashed, we just didn’t know it yet.”
After Rivera’s passing, Agron has since been rewatching the former’s performances on “Glee,” adding that they have brought her so much joy.
“To work with her was a gift. There was a great deal to absorb – her work ethic, her fearlessness, her talent – supreme,” Agron said of Rivera.
“I loved her sense of curiosity and wanderlust,” she added. “I was lucky enough to be her travel partner for some of my most favorite adventures.”
Agron then recounted a spontaneous trip to Paris with Rivera.
“We were united in our commitment to discovery. And there was always a list of cleverly curated ideas in Naya’s back pocket, should we need it,” Agron said.
“I cannot make sense of this tremendous loss,” Agron expressed. “I will hold onto her and these memories for the rest of time, alongside our Glee family. Please hold space for her, her family, her beautiful boy. ”
Rivera’s body was found in Lake Piru in California on July 13, five days after she disappeared while boating with her 4-year-old son, who was found asleep and alone on the boat hours later. /ra
