Now it can be revealed that even though Sofronio Vasquez was not declared as winner of the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment of ABS-CBN noontime show “It’s Showtime,” help was extended to him in terms of work as a vocal coach to other contestants.
Vasquez said in a TV Patrol interview that his job as a vocal coach at that time helped tide him over as he needed work at that time.
“Ang hindi po alam ng nakararami ay after ng ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan,’ tinulungan ako ng ‘It’s Showtime’ na magkaroon ng ibang trabaho kasi sinabi ko na I need work. Kinuha nila akong vocal coach,” he said.
(What many people don’t know is that after my ‘Tawag ng Tangahalan’ stint, ‘It’s Showtime’ helped me get a different job because I told them that I needed work. They tapped me as a vocal coach.)
The “The Voice USA” season 26 winner said that his job as vocal coach focused on developing the contestants’ self-confidence onstage, among other things.
“Hindi naman po ako vocal coach with technical [abilities]. Ang shineshare ko lang ay experience tulad ng paano lumaban sa kaba, siguro paano maging effective na mag-connect sa mga tao (I wasn’t a vocal coach with technical abilities. I would share my experience on how to beat nervousness and how to be more effective in connecting with others),” he said.
Return to ‘It’s Showtime’
Vasquez made his grand homecoming on the January 6 episode of the Kapamilya noontime show, where he performed with “Tawag ng Tanghalan’s” new generation champions, Nyoy Volante, Darren Espanto, and Yeng Constantino.

Touching on his return, Vasquez admitted that he was emotional upon stepping into the “It’s Showtime” stage, as it was the place where he started building up his music career.
‘Yung unang pasok ko sa studio, naiyak talaga ako. Nag-reminisce ako na dito ako nagsimula at dito ako pinaniwalaan. To be on that stage, mas kinabahan pa ako. Hindi kaba in a bad way, but more of an excited way,” he said.
(The moment I stepped into the studio, I felt like crying. I reminisced in here, as this was the place where I started and people started believing in me. To be on that stage, I was very nervous but not in a bad way. More of an excited way.)
Vasquez, who was coached by Michael Bublé, is the first Filipino to bring home the championship in “The Voice USA.” He is set to perform in his first solo concert in Cebu and is set to work on new music.
