Sofronio Vasquez has returned to his home country, the Philippines, following his recent historic win in “The Voice USA,” where he became the first male Asian and the first Filipino winner in the show’s 26 seasons.

On Sunday, Jan. 5, Vasquez took to Facebook to re-post a video of him at the airport, taken moments after he landed in the Philippines. “I’M BACK PINAS [Philippine flag emoji],” he captioned.

The singer’s return to the Philippines was met with excitement from fans as “Welcome back” comments poured from his kababayans (fellow Filipinos).

Vasquez is set to stage his first solo concert in Cebu on Jan. 18. The concert comes with a meet-and-greet session for the VIP ticket holders, and it also coincides with Cebu’s ever-famous Sinulog Festival.

Aside from his upcoming local concert, Vasquez also teased a promising future for his music, acknowledging the help of Michael Bublé, his coach on “The Voice USA.”

“Of course, with Michael Bublé’s idea, he knows who are the perfect people to be connected to and to be talking to. I’m going to trust in them, but, of course, I have a really good vision about my music, so I’m so excited to be working on that,” he shared in a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment.

Before his memorable “The Voice USA” stint, Vasquez joined “Tawag ng Tanghalan” of “It’s Showtime” in 2016 but fell short to qualify for the finals. He competed in the local singing competition again in 2017 and reached the semifinals.

The New York-based Filipino singer joined for the third time in 2019 as part of the “TNT All-Star Grand Resbak” contestants and finished as a grand finalist. 

Vasquez credited the local singing competition for his continued success in music, saying that “Tawag ng Tanghalan” first believed in him.
