Margot Robbie is set to be part of a female-led “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie.

The project will be written by Christina Hodson, who worked with Robbie on the female antihero film “Birds of Prey”, as per The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, June 26.

The film is in early development and is an original story which will introduce new characters.

It is separate from a reboot of the franchise to be written by “Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, who has been behind past “Pirates” films.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been a producer in the “Pirates” franchise since the first film in 2003, will produce both the reboot with Elliott and Mazin, as well as the movie involving Robbie and Hodson.

The project comes after Robbie and Hodson launched in 2019 the Lucky Exports Pitch program, which gives female-identifying writers exposure and experience to pitch studio-ready action movies.

The swashbuckling franchise brought to life Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in 2003 with “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”. It is among the highest-grossing film franchises worldwide, with the past five movies earning $4.5 billion. Niña V. Guno/JB
