Ronald Carballo apologizes to Sharon Cuneta over ‘vicious’ statements: ‘Nagkamali ako’

Entertainment writer and director Ronald C. Carballo has apologized to Sharon Cuneta after the Megastar slammed him for his “vicious, totally untrue posts” about her.

Cuneta started calling out Carballo last Saturday, June 20, claiming that he had been smearing her name for years. Following Cuneta’s statement, Carballo penned an open letter for her, asking for forgiveness. Cuneta posted screenshots of his message on her Facebook page earlier today, June 22.

“PATAWAD (forgive [me]), SHAWIE” the writer said while acknowledging that he had hurt Cuneta’s feelings.

“Nagkamali ako. Buong pagpapakumbaba, gusto kong humingi ng tawad kay Sharon; sa kanyang buong pamilya; sa kanyang mga tagahanga at sa lahat ng talud kong nagmamahal [sa kanya],” he added.

(I made a mistake. In full humility, I want to ask for forgiveness from Sharon, her whole family, her fans and to everyone like me who loves her.)

Carballo also said he has been hurt over the years for their separation as friends due to misunderstandings, caused by bashings and intrigue. He then stated that those years are no longer important.

Carballo explained that he came to the decision of asking for forgiveness from Sharon after praying and listening to his 80-year-old mother who also loved the Megastar.

“Sana tulad ng ilang alaala sa mga larawan, hindi ko pinanaig ang tampo na nauwi sa galit,” he said, referring to old photos of him and Cuneta which he included in his post. Most of the images showed Cuneta and Carballo smiling while hugging each other.

(I hope that as what is seen in the photos, I should have not let my resentment lead to anger.)

He then pointed out how hurtful it is to know that his writing — which he said boosted Cuneta’s career when she was just 15 years old — had also caused Cuneta so much pain.

“Maling-mali ako. Sinsero ako at paulit-ulit akong humihingi ng tawad,” Carballo declared.

(I am really wrong. I am sincere and I am asking again and again for forgiveness.)

After reiterating how he had felt hurt over the pain he caused Cuneta, Carballo stressed that he is now willing to fix their friendship no matter what it takes.

“Di man ganung kadali, sana kahit paano, madugtungan pa ang mga magagandang pinagsamahan natin sa mahabang mga taon. Sana muli tayong magkaunawaan,” he asked Cuneta.

(Even though it may not be that easy, hopefully, we can still add to our good memories over the years. [I] hope we can reconcile.)

While Cuneta has not directly responded to his letter, she later posted religious quotes which could give a hint on her reaction.

Cuneta shared a Bible verse (Matthew 5:43-45) and another religious post; one spoke of loving those who hurt you and the other about being careful of people from one’s past. JB
