Joross’ long-term goal in the biz
Joross Gamboa’s goal is “to achieve longevity” in the biz.
“I started in 2004 with ‘Star Circle Quest.’ I was very young at the time, tapos biglang sikat. I didn’t really take it seriously then. I simply went with the flow and enjoyed the ride,” he recalled. “But working in this industry has encouraged me to keep learning. As I gained more experience, I fell in love with the craft even more.”
These days, Joross said he preferred taking on “character-driven roles. Since the beginning, I never dreamed of becoming popular. I preferred to achieve longevity, like Tito Eddie (Garcia)—he’s my ‘peg.’ This is because popularity is short-lived, every actor knows this. What’s more important for me is that I’m able to do my job well.”
Joross also said winning awards has never been his motivation, “although to receive one is a blessing … What I learned when I started pursuing production work (writing and directing) was that the only person you should please is your director.
“When you win awards, there will still be people who would say you don’t deserve them. As long as my director is satisfied with my performance, I’m OK, too.” —MARINEL CRUZ
