Marian Rivera donated bags of breastmilk to help fellow mothers nurture their babies amid the spread of the coronavirus in the Philippines.
The actress’ gesture is also her way of celebrating the World Day of Human Milk Donation yesterday, May 19.
“Sa pag gunita sa ‘World Day of Human Milk Donation’ nais kong ibahagi ang mumunting alay ko sa mga sanggol na makikinabang sa natatanging sustansya at proteksyong taglay ng gatas ng ina,” she said in her Instagram post on the same day.
(In commemoration of ‘World Day of Human Milk Donation’ I wish to share my small contribution to babies that will benefit from the unique nutrients and protection that a mother’s breastmilk has.)
Rivera added that she sympathizes with “padede,” or breastfeeding mothers, who continue to take care of their children. She also hopes that her donation will help those in need, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The actress has been an advocate of breastfeeding since she gave birth to Zia, her first child with Dingdong Dantes, back in 2015.
In light of her support for breastfeeding, Rivera was also named a “Celebrity Breastfeeding Influencer” by the Mother and Child Nurses Association of the Philippines in November 2018. /ra
