Ben&Ben revealed that they have written a new track after reading a fan’s story about hiding her romantic feelings for her best friend for eight years.

The fan, who went by the username “Anne jou” on YouTube narrated her experience in the comments section of the music video of the band’s song titled “Pagtingin.” The nine-piece folk-pop band later took notice of her story and posted a screenshot of it on Twitter last Monday, May 11.

“I had a best friend during high school whom I liked but I never told him because I was scared of losing our friendship and also [him]. So instead of telling him what I actually felt, I hid and buried my feelings,” the fan said. “And you know what happens to feelings that are buried? They grow.”

“The like I felt for him became love. I wrote poems, songs. After [eight] years, I attended his wedding,” she added. “Last January. And guess what? The world is really overly-cruel.”

“Anne jou” recalled that before her friend’s wedding, he had thanked her for their friendship. However, he also admitted that he loved her for five years before he met the woman who became his wife.

“But he was also scared of losing me so he just decided to keep it. I was shocked and I slightly had anger towards the world,” she said. “We didn’t know that if only one of us dared to make a move, a lifetime was waiting for us.”

She then urged others to “express how you really feel so that in the end you won’t regret anything.”

A day after sharing the fan’s story, Ben&Ben revealed that they had written a new song inspired by it.

“update: so.. this kept us up last night that we ended up writing a new song about it,” the band said.

Aside from the new song, the band has also been keeping busy during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since written two other tracks titled “Nakikinig Ka Ba sa Akin?” and “Doors.”  /ra
