Pia Wurtzbach showed her fans how to create their own face shields at home amid the spread of the coronavirus in the Philippines.

The beauty queen posted instructions on how to put together a do-it-yourself (DIY) face shield on her Instagram page yesterday, May 4.

“Our community frontliners brave the threat of disease daily so we can enjoy the comforts that their sacrifices afford us,” Wurtzbach then pointed out. “Let’s show gratitude to our deliverymen, security guards, supermarket cashiers, and other frontline workers by keeping them protected.”

To create a face shield, one needs to cut a sheet of clear plastic into a piece “big enough to shield one’s eyes, nose and mouth.” The sheet should then be attached to a clean hat using tape, glue or thread.

Wurtzbach also reminded others to still wear a face mask while they use the DIY face shield. The design Wurtzbach shared was created by a group called Community Shields.

The beauty queen has likewise donated 41,900 n88, 1000 kn95 and 350 face shields to more than 20 hospitals nationwide through her fundraiser. Wurtzbach launched her crowdfunding initiate on March 29 to help COVID-19 frontliners.

Wurtzbach’s initiative has since collected over P955,000. Those interested in helping Wurtzbach’s effort can send donations through this page.

Other celebrities such as Catriona Gray, Angel Locsin and Bea Alonzo have also extended their help to those affected by the current pandemic.  /ra
