MANILA, Philippines — TV comedian Alfredo Cornejo Jr., more popularly known as Babajie, has died due to a respiratory ailment. He was 35.
His cousin Cid Cornejo announced the sad news over Facebook on Monday.
“Maaga pa. Bata ka pa. Alam mo kuya na mahal na mahal kita. Ikaw ang pinakaclose ko noon pa man… Ikaw madalas kong kasama. Mamimiss kita (It is too soon. You are still young. I love you so much. You were the closest to me since before… We spent a lot of time. I will miss you),” Cid said in a Facebook post.
“Masakit kuya. Hindi ko kayang sabihin (It hurts. I can’t describe the pain). Queen Babajie Cornejo forever in our hearts. Kuya, may you rest now,” added Cid.
A entry post on comedian’s Facebook showed he had been confined at the San Lazaro Hospital in Manila since April 28.
The last post on his Facebook was last April 30, belying supposed rumors of his death.
According to entertainment portal PEP.ph, the comedian died due to pneumonia.
Popular for his protruding chin, Babajie became part of GMA-7’s gag show “Bubble Gang” and was also featured at the “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” show of the network.
