Actress Angel Locsin skipped the customary blowing of candles during her 35th birthday today, April 23, in view of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Locsin got a “surprise” party, which she discovered 30 minutes before its actual start at the strike of 12 midnight, as seen on her Instagram post. She got two “Darna” cakes from her fiance, film producer Neil Arce, and her father, Angelo Colmenares.
“35 and proud,” Locsin, who is also a philathropist, announced.
Locsin saw the table full of birthday cakes for her “surprise salubong (welcome)” and arranged the pastries by herself. She also captured her fiance when he entered the room after she had discovered the surprise birthday bash.
“Makulit na batang di dapat lumabas ng kwarto (Naughty kid, who should not leave the room),” Arce joked. “Surprise! Happy birthday.”
While making her birthday wish, Locsin tried to snuff out the candle on the birthday cake by clapping her hands near the flame or fanning it. Arce, who was behind the camera, commented on how the actress refused to blow her birthday candles because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After several attempts, Locsin eventually pinched the burning tip of the candle to put out the fire.
“Ayan magpapakapaso na lang siya (There she is just getting herself burnt),” Arce said.
As a part of the COVID-19 relief efforts in the country, Locsin and Arce, together with their friends, collected over P10 million through a fundraising initiative #UniTENTweStandPH.
The money was used to set up tents in numerous hospitals inside and outside Metro Manila, to address the overcrowding brought about by the health crisis. /ra
