Ronnie Liang joined the Philippine Army in transporting healthcare workers to hospitals amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the spread of COVID-19.
The singer, who is also an army reservist, said he wanted to “help [and] contribute and be part of the solution,” as seen on his Facebook page yesterday, March 18. Photos accompanying his post show Liang in his army uniform while he escorted the medical staff into a bus.
He also uploaded a clip of him on the way to fetch the healthcare workers in a separate post earlier today, March 19. In the same video, he showed the bus occupied with the hospital employees as they made their way to a medical center.
Liang joined the Philippine Army as a reservist in 2018. Last month, he was promoted to 2nd lieutenant alongside former beauty queen Zahra Bianca. They are among the celebrities who have joined the military as reservists, including Dingdong Dantes, Gerald Anderson and Matteo Guidicelli.
Aside from the Philippine Army, the Department of Tourism and the Office of the Vice President have also offered free rides to health workers and other frontliners during the pandemic.
The deployment of buses for the medical staff comes after public transportation was suspended as part of the enhanced community quarantine imposed on Luzon. It has also been assured that those using the free services will follow health protocols such as social distancing and body temperature checks. / ra
