While there are many cases of housekeepers being abused by their employers, comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas pointed out that there are also some of them who are inconsiderate to their employers.
Recalling her experience with rude househelps, locally called kasambahay, Delas Alas stressed the importance of being humane, in contrast to being human. The Comedy Queen quoted a line from peace activist Mahatma Gandhi on her Instagram account yesterday, Feb. 13.
“The greatness of humanity is not in being human, but in being humane,” the quote read.
Delas Alas said that whenever she would listen to episodes of “Raffy Tulfo in Action” involving househelps complaining about their employers, she would think of the good employers suffering from bad-mannered househelps. “Paano kung kami naman mga amo na mababait pero masasama naman ang ugali ng ibang kasambahay na nakukuha namin[?]”
(What about us good employers who get housekeepers with bad attitude?)
She added that sometimes the housekeeper would be rude and would even complain about the smallest things, while the employer suffers in silence.
“[Ibibigay] sa ibang employer at malamang mag kwe kwento ng kabaligtaran sa among bago na sila ang victim pero sa totoong buhay sila ang kups at nambiktima.. alam na alam m na mangyayre parang soap,” she added.
([The house helper] would be reassigned [by her agency] to another employer to whom she would claim that she was the victim when in fact she was the villain and the victimizer. You just know what is going to happen, it is like a [soap opera].)
The comedienne also appealed to employment agencies to screen the housekeepers they deploy by using the hashtags #hustisyaparasamgaemployer (justice for the employers) and #mgaagencymagscreenmabutingkasmbahay (agencies screen your housekeepers better). /ra
