“Getting tatted by him was an experience I’ve never had before.. no idea what I was going to get done, I told him about my life and where I was at in that moment and we created a combination [of] images that best symbolized the spiritual awakening I was having,” she wrote.

Located just below her nape, Lovato’s tattoo was a depiction of a fallen angel being lifted up by three doves, which represented the musician being pulled out of a dark place.

“Having a fallen angel being lifted by [three], pure, angelic doves (the Holy [Trinity]) as her inner light is being guided by a higher consciousness, and the disintegration of her dark wings was representing the darkness I was shedding,” she noted.

The singer lauded Capozzi for the impressive artwork, emphasizing how life-like it was and that the tattoo “healed amazing.” She also thanked her manager, Scooter Braun, for introducing her to the tattoo artist.

“Alessandro – you are extremely talented and I can’t wait for more!! Thank you for this special experience.. the only bummer is I can’t physically see this amazing artwork because it’s on my back!” she said.

“Thank you so much Demi. I am so happy to hear that it was an amazing experience for you. You are an incredible human,” he said. “I could see you went through a lot and how that shaped you into becoming such a confident and strong woman.”

“As I already told you, I love your energy. Cannot wait to work again with you,” he added.

Lovato has been open about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, and mental illness in the past. She has admitted to doing drugs such as cocaine before, and was reportedly rushed to the hospital in 2018 after suffering from a near-fatal overdose.

The pop star stayed out of the public eye since then, only to return to the scene by giving an emotional performance of her new song “Anyone” at the 62nd Grammys, her first onstage performance in two years. More than a week later, Lovato sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. NVG
