WATCH: Dimples Romana turns into Iron Man for son Alonzo’s 5th birthday
Dimples Romana transformed into the popular Marvel superhero Iron Man to surprise her son Alonzo for his birthday. He turned five years old yesterday, Feb. 12.
The actress came up with the idea when she was working on the finale of the TV series “Kadenang Ginto,” in which she wore a gladiator-like armor. She uploaded a clip of the surprise on her YouTube channel yesterday.
While shooting for the finale, she met Mark Rodil, the costume and props maker behind the armor for her character Daniela Mondragon. Romana was so amazed by his work that she asked him to create a custom Iron Man suit for her.
On the day of the surprise, Romana left Alonzo, telling him that she had to go to work. However, the excited mom simply transferred to a different room to have Rodil help her with wearing the custom-made suit.
The costume was a close copy of the suit Robert Downey Jr. wore in the popular Marvel films, complete with blasters that lit up. The front part of the suit’s helmet also opened with the use of a remote control.
After Romana was in the custom-made suit, she went back to Alonzo. However, Romana did not reveal that she was inside the costume right away. When Alonzo saw the superhero, he immediately exclaimed “Oh my god!”
Romana then spent more time with a still-surprised Alonzo as they walked and danced around a hotel they were staying at. After returning to their room, the suit’s helmet opened to show Alonzo that his mother was inside the costume.
Upon the reveal, Alonzo said, “Wait, you’re mom?! I didn’t expect that.”
Romana then asked her son if she was his real-life superhero, to which Alonzo simply replied, “Yes.”
Alonzo is Romana’s second child with her husband, Boyet Ahmee. Along with their son, they also have a teenaged daughter named Callie. /ra
