Movie Review: ‘D’Ninang’ – plus my exclusive photos at the red carpet premiere
In ‘D’Ninang’, Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas shows she is still as quick-witted, outrageously hilarious and funny as she has always been known for. Truly, “The Comedy Queen” is ageless and continues to be a master of her craft in the art of Pinoy comedy.
Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas portrays the role of “Ditas” who is a mother-figure to her young co-stars. Ironically, though, “Ditas” has a very unconventional, unscrupulous, and illegal way of making a living for herself and the others who work and live with her.
The onscreen character here of Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas is one that she has never done before and it should get your interest and tickle your imagination as to how she tackles it.
Well, having had the privilege to watch ‘D’Ninang’ during the Red Carpet Premiere, I can tell you that Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas did a superb job in bringing her onscreen character to life because she did not “force it” and her innate natural acting skills just came out. You must add ‘D’Ninang’ to the long list of quality family comedy movies Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas lead-starred in that is definitely worth watching in cinemas now.
Angel Guardian’s role as the boyish “Sol” allowed the young rising singer-actress to show a very different side to her. The onscreen character of “Regal Baby” Angel Guardian was brash, arrogant, tough, intimidating and very temperamental. “Sol” had a temper that could ignite at any moment and she projected that very well on the big screen. In ‘D’Ninang’, Angel Guardian put on a credible and convincing performance that she even had scene-stealing moments with Ms. Ai-Ai delas Alas and Kisses Delavin. Definitely, with her strong showing here, Angel Guardian has a future in showbiz.
Article continues after this advertisementThe onscreen pairing of McCoy De Leon and Kisses Delavin in ‘D’Ninang’ works! Their fans have affectionally dubbed them as “McKiss” which is rather cute and apt for the pair. Moreover, that monicker coined for their team-up by their fans is proof that McCoy De Leon and Kisses Delavin already have a following. Whether this pairing is a one-time movie deal or is meant for the long term, I have no idea. However, the “Kilig Factor” for their team-up in ‘D’Ninang’ was so palpable that night and which I can liken it to “electricity” in the air so much so that this pairing “McKiss” could prove magical, enchanting, and exciting for their fans.

There are a number of moral lessons the moviegoer will realize and learn by the time this movie ends. These timeless moral lessons will sink into your psyche first before your brain can process them because a lot of things will transpire throughout the duration of ‘D’Ninang’ that you must pay close attention as you watch it. It is not often that a movie being billed as a warm family comedy lives up to its description to the fullest.
‘D’Ninang’ has a lot of heart, joy, happiness, and warmth in it so much so that this movie will feel like a “long and tight embrace” to moviegoers and hopefully, they will realize and learn to appreciate and support more movies like this that have a moral cause to exist. The industry needs more movies like ‘D’Ninang’.
‘D’Ninang’ is perhaps as close as it can get in terms of really achieving that classic Pinoy family-comedy atmosphere, vibe, and feeling one can get in this modern-era of filmmaking. The fact that the ‘D’Ninang’ got a G-Rating classification means that this movie is intended for everyone and is meant for the entire family to watch.
Consider this an excellent way to bond with the rest of your family members.
‘D’Ninang’ has a relevant and resounding message to send to moviegoers and what that message is you will only find out if you watch it now in cinemas nationwide.
My score for ‘D’Ninang’ – 10/10
