‘We have to grow individually’: Fans reflect on JaDine split
MANILA, Philippines — Fans of James Reid and Nadine Lustre seem to start their year with a broken heart after the couple confirmed calling it quits, ending their nearly four-year relationship.
After the two issued a joint statement Monday night, some netizens took to Twitter to air their sentiments on the breakup, making “Nadine” and “James Reid” top the trending topics in the country.
One fan shared a lesson learned from their split, echoing the couple’s statement about focusing on their individual growth.
“Jadine’s break-up taught us that no matter how strong we are as couple, we still have to grow separately. We have to grow individually. It will be painful, yes. No one said it wouldn’t. But we have to be strong. Because shit happens. Because we should. Because we will,” one netizen said.

Another fan, meanwhile, looked back at a previous interview of Lustre about her relationship with Reid where she said she can’t imagine a life without the latter.

“I think he was the biggest instrument for my healing and for just discovering myself and finding myself,” Lustre said of Reid at an interview with “Tonight With Boy Abunda.”
Some fans of their tandem “JaDine” also became sentimental, saying they will always support the two despite the breakup.
“For years and years, I have stanned Jadine so hard, defended their names, watched all their teleseryes and movies, heard their music, and now, waking up and hearing their breakup, broke my heart, too. Lustre and Reid confirmed their breakup and said they have decided to focus on their careers and personal growth. It was in 2016 when they first admitted being in a relationship.
