Hotdog bassist Dennis Garcia remembered by daughter after his death: ‘Glad I have your songs’

Dennis Garcia’s youngest daughter Isa had a short yet sweet message for her father after he passed away last Saturday, Jan. 18.

In light of their family’s loss, she posted a photo of her beside that of her father, the bassist and co-founder of Filipino band Hotdog, on her Twitter page yesterday, Jan. 19.

The post showed Dennis holding a white and red electric guitar while wearing a black shirt. In the photo next to it, Isa also wore a black top while holding a ukulele, appearing to imitate her father’s picture.

“Same same but different. Wish I had your music skills but glad I have your songs,” she said. “Love you, pops.”

Isa remembered her father through a series of photos which she uploaded on her Instagram page on the same day. She also revealed that she is writing a book and wished her father had the chance to read it.

“Hug your papas tight for me,” she said, as she shared a part from her book. “I miss mine so much already.”

Isa then spoke about a more personal side of her father. She described him as soft despite his face that may show otherwise. Isa also called her father sentimental, sensitive and “so deeply connected to the stirrings of the human heart.”

“People say that I look like my mom but my heart and my mind,” she said, “for better and for worse, operate a lot like my dad.”

“I say I can’t change it but perhaps the truth is that I really don’t want to,” Isa admitted. “I want the little things to remind me, for the rest of my life, of the privilege it has been to be Dennis Garcia’s daughter.”

Dennis’ death was announced by Isa yesterday through his Facebook account. She did not state the cause of his death.

Dennis and the other members of Hotdog were behind many Filipino hits including “Bongga Ka Day”, “Beh, Buti Nga” and “Manila”. Their lead vocalist and Dennis’ brother Rene passed away in 2018 due to cardiac arrest. JB
