Just as the holiday season is peaking and gift-giving is nigh, actor-entrepreneur Enchong Dee saw it fit to share his financial literacy to the world by launching his first ever podcast, “The Budgetarian.”
In Dee’s new show, which premiered last Monday, Dec. 16 on YouTube, Dee will be sharing his skills and knowledge on budgeting, which he said had worked for him despite not being an expert.
“Kung nagtatanong kayo bakit all of a sudden nandito ako at nagpo-podcast, because I want to share my knowledge to you, my financial literacy, and at the same time I want to learn with you as I go through sa ating mga episodes ng ating podcast,” he said on the first episode.
(If you are asking why all of a sudden I am here and doing a podcast, it is because I want to share my knowledge to you, my financial literacy, and at the same time I want to learn with you as I go through the episodes of our podcast.)
Dee however noted that he is “not your financial guru,” nor your “conventional and theoretical finance expert,” but argued that his personal practices and experiences worked for him.
He likened his podcast to friends just giving advice to other friends, saying people seem to listen more to their “barkada” because they can relate to each other’s experiences.
“Alam niyo yung mga barkada niyo na kapag nagbigay ng advice, mas pinakikinggan natin sila compared dun sa mga expert kasi feeling mo ‘ah, they’re going through the same things, they’re experiencing the same things,” Dee said.
(You know, when your friends give you advice, we tend to listen to them more compared to experts because we feel that they’re going through and experiencing the same things.)
“The Budgetarian” is Dee’s first jump into YouTube, which has been a platform used by lots of other celebrities to vlog and create online content for their fans.
Dee clarified, however, that he is not just joining this “bandwagon” of celebrities creating YouTube channels “just because,” as he maintained that he would only create one if his content would be educational. Then, “The Budgetarian” was formed under Podcast Network Asia.
“For quite some time now, I’ve been asked to jump into the bandwagon of Artists going into Online platforms to strengthen their Social Media presence, pero sabi ko gagawin ko lang to (but I said I will only do it) if it would be Educational, Empowering, and Content worthy because I don’t want to create a channel ‘just because,'” Dee said on Instagram yesterday, Dec. 17.
“So I’m proud to share with you my knowledge about Financial Literacy in a “Budgetarian” way… I’m no expert but based on my experience maraming paraan para palakihin ang Ipon at umangat ang kalidad ng buhay kung aayusin at iintindihin natin ang lumalabas at pumapasok na PERA,” he added.
(I’m no expert but based on my experience, there are many ways to increase your savings and improve your quality of living if you understand how money comes in and out.)
On his YouTube, Dee explained that he coined the term “budgetarian” because he often has been called “kuripot” (frugal), which he said has a negative connotation.
“And ‘yung budgetarian friendlier, mas positive ‘yung (more positive) approach, but it simply means you have an economical approach to a lot of things in your every day lives, but ‘di niyo nakakalimutan mag-enjoy (but you never forget to enjoy),” he said.
Dee had called himself a “budgetarian” before, and even launched a travel book in 2018 titled “Basta Trip Mo” where he also shared “budgetarian” tips when traveling. /ra
