Mariel de Leon opened up about mental health in hopes of helping those who face similar struggles, after someone called her “crazy” for having problems with her own mental health.
“I’m not one to post about these things because I’m the type that hates being vulnerable, but I feel like mental health is such an important topic nowadays,” she said in her Twitter post yesterday, Dec. 14.

De Leon first expressed how glad she was over more people talking about mental health “because that’s what people need; conversation and support.”
The model then revealed that someone had called her crazy “for having mental health problems and for struggling [and] dealing with life right now.”
Addressing those who also face problems with their mental health, she said, “Never let anyone talk down on you and make you feel worthless for having mental health problems and general life problems.”
“I know how it feels to be talked down to and to feel like my feelings aren’t valid,” de Leon added. “And it hurts so much more when it comes from someone you love.”
She reminded others that they are never alone and there is always hope despite facing times where “life is really testing you and you feel like you’re drowning and there’s just no hope of surviving.”
“Please never give up and just keep fighting no matter how tired you are,” she appealed. “Keep fighting for yourself, your goals, and most importantly your happiness.”
“If there is anyone toxic in your life, please just cut them off,” she advised. “You deserve real love and light.”
“Learn to love yourself, both when you are okay and when you are not okay,” de Leon stressed.
De Leon represented the country as Miss International Philippines back in 2017, but later expressed her dislike over being labeled as a “beauty queen.” JB
