Following the passing of his mother on Dec. 1, TV host Boy Abunda opened up about how he is coping with the loss. His mother, Licerna Romerica Abunda, died at the age of 90.

His family took her remains to their hometown of Borongan in Samar yesterday, Dec. 9, he stated in his talk show “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on the same day, after returning to Manila.

He admitted that he and other members of his family are currently facing “tough times,” but the loss hurt him more because he considers his mother as the center of his life.

“I am surrendered to the will of God, but I don’t know how I’m going to move on,” he said. “I continue to commit myself to work, dahil ito po ang nagpapasaya sa aking ina (because this is what makes my mom happy).”

He then thanked his friends and family including his sister Eastern Samar Rep. Maria Fe and longtime partner Bong Quintana, who sympathized with them over the loss.

Abunda pointed out that his family became more open and close to each other after his mother’s passing. On the day his mother died, he said he continued to work because he did not want to avoid the pain he felt.

“I want to confront it, I want to meet it head-on,” he stated. “Kailangan damdamin ang buong process ng ([I] need to feel the whole process of) pain, because I don’t want to be overpowered by it.”

Prior to his mother’s passing, Abunda confirmed in October that his mother, who had dementia, had already been in the hospital for weeks.  /ra
