Fans and haters alike of the infamous Daniela Mondragon have the equally antagonistic Lavinia Arguelles to thank for, as Dimples Romana acknowledged veteran actress Cherie Gil for inspiring her in her journey in the acting industry.

Romana released a heartfelt message for Gil, thanking the latter for giving her motivation and encouragement as an actor, as posted on Romana’s Instagram account earlier today, Dec. 8.

“Legend. My Idol and inspiration. My momma from ‘May Minamahal’ remake years ago. Not fair how she looks this amazing after decades of her acting legacy,” Romana said. “How giving and how professional she is. Thank you @macherieamour for inspiring actors like me to be better always, to be generous like you and to remain grounded and kind.”

“I love you so much! I will forever be your fan and anak (daughter). I dream of the day we get to share a scene again together,” she added.

Gil starred as Becky Tagle, the mother of Romana’s Trina Tagle in “May Minamahal”, the 2007 television series adaptation of the 1993 movie of the same name.

Romana said she will never forget how Gil commended her in one scene, which she said gave “the starting, nervous actor in me hope that one day maybe I can be an actor that can make an impact in people’s lives too.”

“The power of words. They have guided me then until this day. Keep shining your light on actors like me please. We love you!!!” she added.

In her long stint as an actress, Gil as Lavinia Arguelles in the 1985 film “Bituing Walang Ningning” delivered one of the most iconic Filipino villain lines of all time: “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!”

Romana’s show of gratitude to Gil came in light of Romana bagging the Best Actress for a Supporting Role (regional) given by the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA).

Romana claimed the award for her role as the villainess Daniela Mondragon in the TV series “Kadenang Ginto”. Along with other winners from the country, she attended the AACA’s Gala Awards Night last Friday, Dec. 6 at the Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore.

Other than Romana, other regional winners from the Philippines are Nadine Lustre who won as Best Actress in a Leading Role for her appearance as Maya in the 2019 film “Ulan”; Carlo Aquino who bagged Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as “Peter” in the same film; and Tirso Cruz III who won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as Santiago Guerrero in the TV series “The General’s Daughter”. JB
