GQ’s Men of the Year: Robert De Niro and Al Pacino
“The Godfathers of Acting” award-winning actor Robert De Niro posted on Instagram, referencing the cover article of GQ magazine that named him and fellow acting icon Al Pacino its Men of the Year. De Niro and Pacino, of course, were the stars of “The Godfather” movies.
In another post, the usually reticent De Niro (unless he is expressing his strong negative feelings towards the current United States president, Donald Trump) said, “One of the things about acting is it allows you to live other people’s lives without having to pay the price.”
He even wrote a lengthy—for him—description of his professional chemistry with Martin Scorcese, a favorite collaborator who recently directed him and Pacino in “The Irishman”: “Sometmes, I say, ‘Look, I’m gonna do this,’ and somehow he knows that’s right to do, to make that choice. Marty is very good at picking up on things. He gives people more latitude to come up with ideas, because he’s not afraid to experiment with things or accept ideas from other people. And even if they seem a little off-the-wall, sometimes an idea that’s so out of left field is actually more appropriate than you would imagine. And he’s able to see that and orchestrate it in the scene—maybe bring it down a notch if it’s too much but still keep the basic idea intact. We have a shorthand understanding about a lot of things. It’s a lot more complicated than ‘alter ego.’”
Bond probes Captain America
And a great time was apparently had by all involved in the movie, “Knives Out.” Two big screen heroes—James Bond, the British spy with the license to kill, and Captain America of the Avengers—had a fun Instagram moment during the movie’s premiere.
Daniel Craig, aka Bond, captioned the photo of him and his costar, the Captain: “Was a great meet up with #ChrisEvans #KNIVESOUT #PremierNight”
In the crime comedy with an all-star cast, “a detective investigates the death of the patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.” The patriarch is renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey, played by Christopher Plummer. He is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday. Craig plays “the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc,” who investigates the death, while Evans is a spoiled playboy who does not like being interrogated.
Also in the cast are Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Toni Collette and Ana de Armas, among others.
