Lizzie McGuire is turning 30 in the reboot for Disney+, and it seems she still has at least one friend to lean on as she figures out life: David “Gordo” Gordon, played by Adam Lamberg.
Hilary Duff, who is the star and executive producer of the series “Lizzie McGuire,” explained why Gordo was brought back. “Gordo was an essential piece of the puzzle to what made the original ‘Lizzie McGuire’ so authentic and beloved,” she said in a statement released by Disney on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
“I couldn’t imagine the series without him. I can’t wait for fans to see what he’s up to 15 years later and how he fits into Lizzie’s adult world.”
Duff posted a picture of her and Lamberg yesterday, Nov. 21, on Instagram, which has racked up over 1.9 million likes.
In the original series, which ran from 2001 to 2004 and followed Lizzie through high school, Gordo is her smart and rational best friend who gives her a shoulder to cry on—and eventually has feelings for her.
The show wrapped up with “The Lizzie McGuire Movie,” which saw Gordo and Lizzie kiss on a trip after graduating from junior high school. It appears the romance does not last, as the revival will feature Lizzie with her “dream guy.”
Lizzie will also have her “dream job” as an assistant to an interior designer in New York, but while it seems she has things worked out, she still needs the help of her family and friends in figuring out adulthood.
The show is also bringing back Lizzie’s family in Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire) and Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire). It has yet to be announced if the actress Lalaine will reprise her role as Lizzie’s other BFF Miranda.
Production of the show began in October. /ra
