Newest horror creature in ‘The Heiress’

Maricel Soriano and Janella Salvador are introducing a different kind of spooky entity in Regal Entertainment’s horror drama, “The Heiress,” which begins its theatrical run on Nov. 27.

After those seen in flicks like “Regal Shocker,” “Tiyanak,” “Aswang,” “Impakto,” “Vampira,” “Haunted Mansion” and “Haunted Forest,” the latest creature to go bump in the night is the mamalarang, a powerful dark spirit that intends to use its evil powers through its human medium, the mambabarang.

“The Heiress,” about an overprotective surrogate mom who would punish anyone who would steal from her ward’s love and attention, gathers a powerhouse cast that includes Maricel, Janella, “Darna” star Jane de Leon, Sunshine Cruz and McCoy de Leon. Frasco Mortiz directs.
