Angelica Panganiban’s family gets harassed by driver in Paris

Angelica Panganiban sought help online after her family got harassed by a driver in Paris.
In a series of tweets in the evening of Nov. 7, Panganiban explained that her older sister, brother-in-law and niece were in Paris and were overcharged €450 (around P25,000) by a driver for their ride from the airport to their accommodation near the Eiffel Tower.
“So hindi po ginawa ng kapatid ko dahil alam niyang sobra sobra ang singil sa kanila,” she said. “Sinigaw sigawan niya ate ko, kuya ko at pamangkin [ko]. Hinampas niya kamay ng ate ko dahil kinunan niya ng picture. Natatakot sila ngayon dahil alam nung driver kung saan sila nakatira.”
(My sister did not do it since she knows they were being overcharged. The driver yelled at my older sister, my brother-in-law and my niece. He hit my sister’s hand because she was taking a picture. Now they are scared because the driver knows where they are staying.)

Panganiban added that her family found it difficult to report the incident to the authorities since they could not speak French.
She shared a photo of the alleged perpetrator and what appears to be a photo of the vehicle’s plate number in a series of tweets. The vehicle had a logo of European ride-hailing app Chauffeur-Privé, which rebranded to Kapten early this year.
“Pumayag yung driver na mag settle sa 100euros and $60 dollars dahil yun lang laman ng wallet nilang tatlo,” she said. “Tapos hinagis yung pera ng pamilya ko sa kalsada.”
(The driver agreed to settle for €100 and $60 since that was all they had in their wallets. Then, he threw my family’s money on the road.)

She also said a Filipino named Leo Lim witnessed the incident and helped her family translate to the driver.

Her family had been shaken by the incident and were too afraid to leave their rental place out of fear that the driver could be waiting for them. She added they had been asking for help in the hopes of finding a Filipino who could accompany her family to the police so they could report the incident and transfer places.
Panganiban has since shared an update via Twitter on Friday, Nov. 8, saying many Filipinos extended their help to her family. She mentioned a certain Ms. Angela from MEGA Magazine who had a contact in Paris, as well as “Ate Celia,” a friend of celebrity makeup artist Dennies “Glorious” Asaral.
“Walang katulad ang pilipino! Ms angela from MEGA magazine that called Luis who’s In Paris. Ate Celia na friend ni @gloriousmakeup they are with my family now. Helping them,” she said. “Thank you!!! Habang buhay ako may utang na loob sa inyo.”

Panganiban’s nephew Aldrin also took to Instagram Stories on Nov. 8 to thank the Filipinos who helped his parents and sister in Paris. He added local authorities had been informed of the incident and that the embassy had given their family assistance. /ra
