Filipina beauty vlogger Michelle Dy has hit back at American cosmetics mogul Jeffree Star’s “trash” comment on her makeup products, telling Star, “Call me trash all you want.”

Dy took to Twitter yesterday, Oct. 30, to defend her recently-released line of makeup brushes and beauty blenders called “Michelle Dy Basics” from Star, albeit not dropping his name, saying that the products are the result of the hard work of other people and not just her’s.

“Call me trash all you want, but not the products which not just I, but a lot of people worked hard for. If it didn’t pass your standards, I cannot do anything about that,” she said. “But one thing is for sure, I worked hard, poured my heart and 100% into it and I am proud of it.”

Dy’s tweet received mixed reactions. Some are not having it while others defended her.

One Twitter user @camsuyyy replied to Dy’s tweet, saying “if you are a (sic) trash then anything associated with you is trash too. There’s no exception to Jeffree.”

Another commenter meanwhile suggested to Dy that if her career is improving, then she should also improve her self-development.

“Yun pala e (If that’s the case), then avoid tolerating your bad attitude. Hello? If your career is improving, you should improve your self-development too,” one @Raetheina_ said. “This isn’t about ‘Being yourself, be true to yourself’ that isn’t a good self, if while succeeding, nananahimik ibang tao inaano mo (you’re bothering innocent people).”

Others accepted Dy’s defense, just as in the case of one @lokresiyaaaa who recognized Dy’s point.

“I get Michelle’s point in this Tweet y’all, kasi maganda man o chaka yung isang bagay na gawa mo basta masaya ka sa kalalabasan nun.

(I get Michelle’s point in this Tweet y’all, because it doesn’t matter if your work is good or not, as long as you’re happy with the outcome.)

Meanwhile, some netizens brought up Dy’s recent tweet about sending a “Michelle Dy Basics” PR box to her ex-boyfriend for his new partner. One @Keykkoo asked Dy to be sensitive to others.

“Walang masamang ipakita mo yung totoong ikaw. Pero BE SENSITIVE din naman. Nasaktan siyang tinawag na TRASH ung product niya? Eh siya ba? Inisip ba niya yung mararamdaman ng ex at gf ng ex niya sa pasimpleng flex niya na may pa-PR siya. Kailan ba siya matututo?” the netizen said.

(There’s nothing wrong with showing your true self. But be sensitive as well. She (Dy) is hurt because her product was called trash? How about her? Did she think about what her ex and his GF would feel after she slyly said she has a PR treat (for the girl)? When will she learn?)

On an Oct. 27 tweet, Dy stated, “I sent a michelle dy basics pr box to an ex, para sa bago nya (for his new partner). Sometimes I can be so… nice.” She drew flak for the said post.

As the word war between netizens go on, however, some are not happy with all the “hate.”

“A lot of people here on twitter talking about ‘mental health issues’ pero pag nagkaroon ng issue ang isang tao, sila pa tong mga nangunguna at tuwang tuwa pagkaisahan yung tao. Nakakatawa kayo. I mean (nakakaawa) kayo,” one @queencrisiem_ said.

(A lot of people here on Twitter talk about “mental health issues” but when a person is involved in an issue, they are quick to band together to hate on that person. You make me laugh. I mean, I pity you guys.)

Star and Dy’s online conflict started in 2018 when the Filipina allegedly copied Star’s “Jeffree Star Approved” series, which Star called out through Snapchat. Dy has since issued a public apology to Star. JB
