Nikki Gil proves that her time away from the spotlight has not affected her knack for the performing arts as she is set to star in an upcoming musical.

“Back to my first love,” she said in her Instagram post last Tuesday, Oct. 15, which shows her on stage with her co-star Gian Magdangal.

The two will star opposite each other in “Carousel” by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. The play first premiered on Broadway in New York City in 1945.

FEATURED STORIES

The musical centers on a young couple, millhouse worker Julie Jordan (Gil) and carousel barker Billy Bigelow (Magdangal), who lose their jobs because of their love affair. Their relationship results in Julie’s pregnancy, which pushes Billy to participate in robberies to provide for their expected child.

The musical production will be directed by Toff de Venecia and is set to be staged in the Philippines in May 2020.

Gil, a former VJ, took time off of show biz in 2016 to focus on her family life and blog.

She tied the knot with businessman BJ Albert back in November 2015. The couple welcomed their first child, Finn, in November 2017.  /ra
