LISTEN: Charli XCX, Troye Sivan reconnect in ‘2099’

Charli XCX reunites with Troye Sivan in her new single “2099”, which will be part of her upcoming eponymous album. The duo first collaborated last year on another of Charli XCX’s songs, “1999”.

The new release sees the pair referencing the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), which will apparently still exist in a century.

“I pull up, roll up, f**k up/Fast like a Nascar, never touch us/Got visions, levels, they don’t get me/Quiet, no discussions, please hush,” they sing in the chorus, over a synth-filled beat.

The single serves as the closing track of “Charli”, which will arrive on Sept. 13. An accompanying music video is already in the works, as Charli XCX announced on Instagram last Monday, Sept. 9.

The British singer has already shared multiple singles from her new album, including “Cross You Out” with Sky Ferreira, “Blame It On Your Love” with Lizzo and “Gone” featuring Christine and Queens.

In a statement, Charli XCX teased that her third studio album is her “most personal” to date.

“I’ve put as many of my emotions, my thoughts, my feelings and my experiences with relationships into these 15 songs and I am so proud of them,” she explained.

Last June, Charli XCX announced a world tour in support of her new album which will bring her through Europe, Canada and United States. She will embark on the North American leg of the tour on Sept. 20 at Georgia’s Buckhead Theater in Atlanta, U.S. RGA/JB
