LOOK: Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr. reunite as fate of Spider-Man hangs

Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. seemed to pay no mind as the fate of Spider-Man on movie screens is up in the air.

Holland and Downey Jr., who play Spider-Man and Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) respectively, posed for selfies during a hike, as shown in Holland’s Instagram post yesterday, Aug. 23.

Deliberate or not, the reunion was heart-melting for fans as the actors also held action figures of each other’s character. The 23-year-old actor wrote in the caption: “We did it Mr Stark!”

In the “Spider-Man” and “Avengers” films, Holland’s Peter Parker looks up to Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark as a mentor and father figure. Despite his snarky demeanor, Stark softens up to the superhero teen.

It is unclear if the pictures are an indication of Spider-Man staying at home in Marvel. The post comes days after reports that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige clashed on a deal that would keep the web-slinging hero in the MCU.

Since Sony Pictures currently owns the film rights to Spider-Man, if the deal with Marvel falls through, Spider-Man will no longer appear alongside other Marvel superheroes, despite his role as an Avenger.  /ra
