Cory’s 10th death anniversary: Kris Aquino remembers mom’s simplicity, final moments

A decade after former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino’s passing, her daughter Kris looks back on fond memories of her.

The Queen of All Media commemorated the late leader’s memory by sharing images of some of her mother’s belongings on social media recently.

“A decade has passed, and yet it feels as fresh as a moment ago,” Kris said in her Instagram post last Saturday, July 27.

She posted an image of Cory’s engagement ring given by her father, the late Ninoy Aquino, as she recounted the events of the moment her mother passed away.

“[I] remember signing DNR forms. [I] can still feel being shaken awake when her monitors signaled that she’d soon flatline,” she recalled. “[I] can see all of us praying the Rosary and saying goodbye. [I] remember signing her death certificate.”

She also showed the necklace that belonged to Cory, via Instagram yesterday, July 31.

“Offended po ako every time sinasabihan na naging sakim sa kapangyarihan at [kayamanan] ang Mom because nobody was as SIMPLE as her,” Kris stated.

(I am offended every time people say my mother was greedy for power and fortune because nobody was as simple as her.)

She stated that she probably did not enter public service like her parents because apart from her health issues, Cory left her with some advice: “kristina, enter public service when you are ready to be simple and no longer excited about material possessions.”

Moments later, she shared a photo of the two of them from February 2008, from designer JC Buendia. The photo was apparently taken a month before her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She recalled that despite how often they were photographed, they were not fond of having their pictures taken.

Cory, a key figure in the 1986 People Power Revolution, died Aug.1, 2009 after battling colon cancer. JB
