Kathryn Bernardo, the on- and offscreen partner of Daniel Padilla, recently gave feedback about potential leading ladies of the actor — and she does not think Julia Barretto is a fit, but for a valid reason.

Bernardo opened up about her thoughts on Padilla’s possible leading ladies, in an episode of the talk show “Tonight with Boy Abunda” which aired last Friday, July 26. In the interview, Bernardo was asked to select, among six actresses presented in a screen, who can work with Padilla in future projects. Barretto was among those she said may not be ideal for Padilla.

“Feeling ko too young… parang si Janella [Salvador] kanina,” Bernardo said, referring to her reaction when Janella Salvador was earlier presented as one of the choices. “Parang masyado nang bata for DJ kasi ngayon, medyo pa-lolo na siya eh.”

(I feel Julia is too young, like Janella a while ago. Julia is too young for Daniel, because he is already getting old.)

Barretto was not the only actress who did not make Bernardo’s list. Bernardo also does not see Lustre as a fitting leading lady for Padilla, primarily to avoid fandom wars between KathNiel and JaDine fans.

“Nag-no ako kay James para walang gulo, so, e di goodbye para tahimik na ‘yung dalawang fandoms,” Bernardo said. (I already said no to James to avoid issues, so, goodbye, for both fandoms to be at peace.)

“Kasi mas naging individual na din na movie si Nadine and I don’t think kailangan niya ng love team ngayon. Parang na-e-enjoy niya ‘yung freedom na ‘yon,” Bernardo added, referring to recent career moves by Nadine Lustre to explore projects as a stand-alone artist.

(Nadine is doing [individual projects]. I do not think she needs a love team right now. It looks like she is enjoying the freedom.)

Aside from Barretto and Lustre, Bernardo also does not see Janella Salvador as Padilla’s leading lady in an acting project due to the age element, but she does think Salvador can work with Padilla on a duet or music project.

Meanwhile, she thinks Kim Chiu, Maymay Entrata, Pia Wurtzbach and Maine Mendoza can be good matches for Padilla in future projects.
