Megastar Sharon Cuneta expressed her admiration for actress Cherry Pie Picache after she forgave the killer of her mother, Zenaida Sison.
Picache faced her mother’s killer in “Radical Love,” a documentary of her quest to forgiving Michael Flores after he stabbed her mother to death back in September 2014.
Cuneta took to social media recently to share to her fans she just watched “Radical Love” on YouTube, which was launched early this month on ABS-CBN’s “Sunday’s Best.”
“I have just watched it on YouTube. What Cherry Pie did is not only admirable — it is profoundly humbling — and shows us the power there is in forgiveness,” Cuneta said via Instagram on July 18.
“‘Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us,’” she added. “To be able to face one who has taken away her mother with a kind and generous, forgiving heart, only by the grace of God, allows the healing of her heart, as well as the heart of the murderer.”
Cuneta also commended Picache for her strength and wished that she and her family would continue on the path of healing.
“I salute Cherry Pie on this,” Cuneta said. “I pray that she and her family continue to heal, and that when they all arrive in heaven, God will welcome them with the words, ‘Well done, my children.’”
Picache has since shared that, indeed, it was God who took over when she decided to meet and forgive Flores.
“I for one always say, ‘God, ikaw na ang bahala (I leave it up to You).’ This is one moment in my life where I can undoubtedly say, ‘He did take over!’” Picache said in an interview published last July 10. “It can never be as real as when I was with our offender. Catharsis — yes, that’s one, although I realize it isn’t done yet.”
She also said that it is harder for Flores than it is for her.
“Imagine, ‘pag bumalik ka sa katinuan mo (when you return to your sanity) and all that is good in you, gusto mong magkaroon ng (you’d want to have) amnesia for all the bad things you’ve done,” Picache said. “That’s what I saw in Michael.” /ra
