This year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant, held on Sunday, June 9, had its own set of memorable moments, with one of them involving host Anne Curtis.
As Curtis handed a microphone to each beauty queen during the Top 15 question-and-answer portion, Miss Sorsogon Maria Isabela Galeria did not take the mic as she stood tall with her hands on her waist. The actress graciously held it up as Galeria answered the question.
On Tuesday, June 11, Vice Ganda poked fun at Curtis during “It’s Showtime,” mimicking the moment when the actress served as a mic stand. “Ang ganda ng suot ni Anne Curtis, pinaghawak ng mic (Anne Curtis was so beautifully dressed and she was made to hold a mic)!” Vice joked.
Curtis explained that the beauty contestant must have been nervous that she forgot to take the mic.
Galeria took to her Instagram on Monday to explain her side. “I honestly had no bad intentions towards @annecurtissmith I was just really nervous and was concentrating to answer the question being asked.
“Anne is a superstar and was very kind, polite and gracious to all of us. It was a pleasure and inspiring to be in her presence,” she said.
Curtis responded in a comment with reassurance. “Hey gorgeous! Don’t worry about it and don’t mind the memes. All of you were nervous and had to concentrate on one of the most crucial parts of the pageant — Q&A.”
“It was an honor to be of service to you and all the beautiful candidates,” she said. “Ganyan lang talaga minsan. May mga kulit moments na hindi palalampasin ng Madlang People (It’s like that sometimes. There are funny moments that people won’t let go).”
Galeria, 20, is a nurse who advocates mental health issues. /ra
