MANILA, Philippines — Some celebrities showed how proud they are of being Filipino in celebration of the 121st anniversary of the country’s independence on Wednesday.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was proud to wave the Philippine flag, as she shared a throwback photo during her homecoming parade.
“Whatever our job, position, social circles or community we have the opportunity to #RaiseOurFlag and show our love for our country and it’s people,” the beauty queen said in an Instagram post.
Meanwhile, Heart Evangelista shared a selfie and greeted, “From one proud Filipino to another, Happy Independence Day.”
Actor and Cavite vice governor Jolo Revilla posted a photo of himself behind Emilio Aguinaldo’s house, where the country’s independence was first declared in 1898.
“Ang pagwagayway ng bandila ng Pilipinas ay simbolo ng katapangan, kalayaan at pagkakaisa,” he wrote. “Hindi natin makakamit ang ating kasarinlan kung hindi iisa ang ating hangarin.”
“Hamon sa bawat isa na ipagpatuloy ang nasimulan ng ating mga bayani at itaguyod ang diwang makabayan sa kasalukuyan,” Revilla added.
“Maligayang araw ng kalayaan mahal kong Pilipinas,” comedienne Pokwang said, sharing a painting that depicted how Marcela Agoncillo and other patriotic women made the first Philippine flag.
And fellow comedian Pooh had a profound message in celebration of the country’s independence: “Salamat sa pagiging Pilipino.. Ano man ang pagkakaiba sa paniniwala sa politika.. Tandaan.. Iisa lang ang ating bandila.” (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
