Sharon Cuneta praised for being ‘true fan’ during K-pop festival
Sharon Cuneta was lucky to meet boy group NCT 127 on Sunday, June 9, but she was any ordinary screaming fan in the crowd during their concert in Manila.
K-pop fans took to Twitter to praise Cuneta for foregoing pricey SVIP tickets and opting to cheer from afar along with daughter Miel Pangilinan at the K-Pop World Music Festival 2019.
A video from one fan (@AnAnAnnyeongg) on Sunday showed the Megastar standing and waving, and even showing off her shirt, which said “NCTzen Momma,”

“She sat in a place nowhere near the stage and [fangirled ’til her heart’s] content with her daughter. This is a true fan and not someone who [simply] uses fame to get SVIP treatment. I stan,” wrote the fan on Twitter.
The fan also said that Cuneta did not make the request to meet NCT, and that it was “the backstage crew” that approached her to meet the group. “She was even surprised and hesitant at first,” the fan recalled.
In the same Twitter thread, another K-pop fan (@mochipawtato) said Cuneta was in the same row as they were and would apologize for stepping on feet. She also cheered on for other acts at the festival besides NCT, namely Red Velvet, Elris, Kim Dong Han and Sohee.

The actress’ meet and greet with NCT was unplanned—she credited TV hosts Vice Ganda and Ryan Bang for getting her backstage. Pictures on Instagram that she shared show her beaming from ear to ear when she met the boys.

On Sunday, Cuneta made an Instagram post in which she offered to take NCT to a private beach and asked if they could do a full concert in Manila.

Cuneta has been vocal about her admiration for K-pop on social media and TV guestings. She said on “Magandang Buhay” in November that it was Miel who influenced her to join the fandom. /ra
