“Alam nyo po ba kung ano ang ibig sabihin ng [pagsusuot] nyo ng hijab? Or ginagawa nyo lang po itong isang costume para ipakita sa publiko (Do you know the meaning behind wearing a hijab? Or do you just wear this as a costume to show to the public)?”

The netizen also told Rodriguez that being a Muslim is sacred and the Islam religion should not just be practiced whenever one wishes to do so. “Kung isa kang Muslim magpaka-Muslim ka (If you are a Muslim, then act like a Muslim).”

Rodriguez has since defended herself and clarified to the netizen that she is not a Muslim.

“No. I am not a Muslim. I am a Catholic. I was born a Catholic and I still am,” said Rodriguez. “But I respect my husband’s religion therefore kasama niyo ako sa pag gugunita ng Eid Al Fitr kaya bumati kami ng anak ko ng Eid Mubarak sa lahat ng mga kapatid namin sa Islam (kasama ka duon).”

(I respect my husband’s religion, therefore I am with you in celebrating Eid al-Fitr. That’s why my daughter and I greeted our brothers and sisters in Islam Eid Mubarak, you included.)

Rodriguez also said there was nothing wrong in greeting Muslims “Eid Mubarak” and by joining them by wearing a hijab. As per her response, she and Isabella were inside a mosque and added it was the proper attire when inside.

“Nasa loob kami ng mosque. Diba yan ang tamang kasuotan sa loob ng mosque?” said Rodriguez. “Diba dapat naka hijab sa loob ng mosque?”

(We were inside a mosque. Is this not the right attire to wear inside a mosque? Are we not supposed to wear a hijab inside a mosque?)  /ra
