Angel Guardian out to prove there’s more to her than her novel screen moniker
For a show biz newcomer, achieving stardom is almost always an alluring prospect. Angel Guardian, however, has set more reasonable goals for herself. Before she could even entertain thoughts of being a household name, she said it’s important for her to focus first on honing and expanding her skillset.
“For now, my goal is just to improve myself as a performer. I want to feel worthy of every role I get. I’m at a point where I want to try different things and test my capabilities,” she told the Inquirer in a pocket interview for “Beauty and the Hypebeast”—the upcoming installment of GMA News and Public Affairs’ digital short film series, “One Hugot Away.”
Of course, fame would be a nice thing to have, she said. “But it’s something you have to work hard for. It’s all a matter of right timing, too,” pointed out the 20-year-old talent, who has so far played minor roles in such shows as “Onanay” and “Sahaya.”
Aside from acting, Angel also hopes to venture into music. And she had no qualms performing on the spot when teased by other writers to “give a sample.” She sang “La Vie en Rose,” and surprised everyone with her charming and soothing tone.
“I’m an old soul. And I might not look like it, but I’m also a fan of hip-hop and R&B. I love listening to Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper and Drake,” she said.

Unfortunately, she had to quit after her third year as a hotel and restaurant management student at the Far Eastern University.
“We ran into some financial problems. My mom has back problems and can’t do heavy work anymore, so I told her I’m going to take care of her,” she related. “My mom and dad, who’s an Israeli, are now separated. He’s now based in Hong Kong.”
In “Beauty and the Hypebeast,” Angel plays Cat, a member of a snooty senior high school clique that looks down on people it considers “jologs”—like Joe, played by fellow newbie Kelvin Miranda. But in a twist of events, the two find themselves falling for each other.
“Beauty” will be broken into a number of parts, which will air in between commercial gaps of “Kapuso Movie Festival,” “Kara Mia” and “Are You Human?” from June 3 to June 6. The entire short movie will then be uploaded on GMA 7’s online pages on June 7.
