K-Pop star Jin of BTS gained recognition from UNICEF for his donations to the fund.

UNICEF Korea said in a statement on Friday, May 31, that Jin (real name: Kim Seok-jin) has been welcomed to the UNICEF Honors Club. The club includes donors of over 100 million won (around P4.3 million) to the nonprofit.

Jin, 26, preferred not to disclose the amount he had donated since May 2018. However, he decided that joining the Honors Club could be publicized to raise awareness for UNICEF.

The seven-member group has gained an international following, recently earning recognition in the United States as the first Korean group to win the Top Duo/Group award at the Billboard Music Awards held this month.

The boy band has used their platform in a campaign with UNICEF. The “Love Myself” global campaign began in 2017 to raise awareness and funds to end violence against children and teens. The funds raised support for youths who are victims of domestic violence and sexual violence.

As of November last year, the campaign raised over 1.6 billion won (P70 million) based on donations and a percentage of sales from their “Love Yourself” albums and other related goods.  /ra
