The 67th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science (FAMAS) Awards night was a special one for actress Anne Curtis who became the first-ever female artist to bag the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award yesterday, April 28.

Curtis was so overwhelmed during her speech that she took to social media today, April 29, to express the sentiments she was not able to articulate the night before. In the post, Curtis can be seen proudly holding the FPJ Award, wearing a black Michael Leyva gown and late Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn’s very own black bow for the special occasion.

FPJ award goes to a woman

“It was a very special night and I would like to thank the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science for giving me the recognition and as the FIRST FEMALE recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award,” said Curtis via Instagram.

“Just as ‘Da King’ led the way to make a mark in the industry with his action films I was given the opportunity to do the action film ‘BuyBust’ that had a strong female lead,” she added. “In fact, last year I did 3 films, all of different genres with very strong female leads.”

Curtis remarked that today is an amazing and exciting time in the entertainment industry, since women can take on the part as strong leads of any film and genre.

“Thank you to all the directors and film companies that continue to have faith in us, Filipina actresses,” she said in gratitude.

She dedicated her award to her family, mainly her mother Carmen for being “the wind beneath my wings,” as well as husband Erwan Heussaff. She also dedicated it to the Filipino youth who continue to work hard to chase their dreams.

“I am in fact living out her dream to be an actress. My parents and family who continue to support me,” she said. “My husband who understands my crazy schedule and sometimes not seeing me for a month.”

Hepburn’s bow

Before receiving the honor, Curtis took to her Instagram Stories to share the special accessory she would be donning for the night.

In her Stories, she shared a photo of a parcel she received from British auction house Christie’s. In another, she shared a clip of her unfolding the parcel’s paper wrapping to reveal Hepburn’s black bow.

“I’m shaking,” she said. “My love, Audrey Hepburn wore and owned this pretty bow.”
