Seasoned scribe not falling for sweet star’s ‘user-friendly’ ruse
Exuberant Honey (EH) really knows how to turn on the charm—especially when circumstances call for it. But Veteran Journo (VJ) knows only too well when EH’s effusive affability is just for show. He should know—he’s been gypped by EH once.
So, he’s been warning colleagues not to fall for EH’s user-friendly ruse because of his “been there, done that” experience with her.
VJ’s notable “run-in” with EH was memorable—and instructive. EH sounded like she was having a ball “chatting up a storm” with VJ. She loved the chitchat so much she made him write down her number.
“Make sure you text me later so I can also get your number,” she reminded VJ. Then, she gave him the profile name she uses for one of her “secret” social media accounts. “Add me, OK?” she stressed before they parted ways. And he did. To VJ’s surprise, EH never accepted his friend request—which was EH’s idea, in the first place.
So, when VJ received another invitation for a “special and intimate one-on-one” lunch with EH, who was promoting one of her pet projects, he was only too happy to beg off.
